Women's Tennis Secures First Win of the Season Over SJU

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis kicked off their season with a dominant performance, earning a 6-1 victory over Saint Joseph's University in their opening match. The Owls showcased their depth and determination, sweeping the doubles matches and delivering five decisive singles wins to secure the team's first win of the season.

How It Happen

Temple set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. Thamara Kawaratani and Marianthi Christoforidou defeated SJU's Wiktoria Czerny and Victoria Tracey, 6-3, while Maria Martinez and Shevita Aulana posted a 6-2 victory over Charlotte Kordonowy and Brooke Tackett. Irmak Ozturk and Nina Andreoni completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over Addison Melfi and Ana Ocasio.
In singles play, the Owls maintained their momentum. Ozturk delivered a standout performance, dominating Tracey 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. Though Kawaratani fell to Czerny 6-4, 6-2, Temple quickly rebounded.
Martinez triumphed in a gritty three-set battle over Melfi, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3, and Christoforidou secured a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tackett. Aditi Vaidya and Andreoni rounded out lineup with straight-set victories over Kordonowy (6-2, 6-3) and Ocasio (6-4, 6-2), respectively.
