Men's Soccer Drops 2–1 Decision to South Florida

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team fell to South Florida 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion on Friday, Oct. 24, at Temple Sports Complex. Despite a late equalizing goal from Anthony Perez in the 86th minute, the Bulls converted on a last-minute penalty shot for a 2-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulls were busy offensively in the first stretch of play with five shots and two corners in the first 30 minutes of play. Diego Dauzier started strongly with three saves in the first half.
- Just moments into the second half, South Florida broke through as Brandon Nyagurungo found the back of the net off a pass from João Belmudes in the 46th minute. The Bulls would continue this aggressive stretch of play with six shots in the following 20 minutes of action.
- Despite this offensive push from South Florida, the Owls would continue to knock on the door with three shots committed by Charlie Votel and two from Nathan Brown.
- Anthony Perez would eventually put the Owls on the board late with an equalizer in the 86th minute, evening the match at 1-1.
- After a stretch of physical play that saw cards issued to both teams, the Owls were whistled for a foul in the box in the final minute of regulation. Tyler Richardson of USF would convert on the penalty shot to clinch a 2-1 victory for the South Florida Bulls.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Perez scored the first goal of his collegiate career on Friday night. This goal adds to his 2025 offensive production, with season highs of four shots and two shots on goal against Monmouth (Sept. 26).
- Nathan Brown recorded the assist on Perez's goal. This marks his second consecutive match with an assist, doing so against Memphis (Oct. 18).
- Perez was one of six Owls to record a shot, joined by Brown, Wilson Holman, Charlie Votel, Rocco Haeufgloeckner, and Paolo Kampula.
- In goal, Diego Dauzier ended the night with five saves, with three in the first half and two in the second.
- Four Owls finished the night playing the full 90 minutes with Kampula, Jayden Jackson, Luka Lukic, and Alex O'Leary not seeing the bench the entire match.
UP NEXT
The Owls will next hit the road for the final time this season, facing Charlotte in an American Conference tournament rematch on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. with the action streaming exclusively on ESPN+.
