Temple Falls to South Florida in Four Sets at McGonigle Hall

PHILADELPHIA – Temple volleyball (11-6, 1-2 American) fell to South Florida (7-7, 3-0 American) 3-1 at McGonigle Hall Friday evening in its conference home opener. The Owls were paced offensively by Christiana Greene (13), Olivia Hummel (11), and Leia Harper (10), who each recorded double-digit kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 20, USF 25)
The opening frame featured four early ties before USF used a 6-1 run to take a 12-9 lead.
Temple battled back with kills from Greene, Harper, and Jaya Moore, cutting the deficit to 21-17.
The Bulls closed out the set, 25-20.
SET 2 (Temple 26, USF 24)
A kill by Greene and an ace from Harper trimmed the Bulls' lead to 6-5.
Greene's back-to-back kills sparked a 3-0 run, followed by Harper's third ace to even the score at 20-20.
A block by Alyssa Finister and a kill from Hummel sealed the set for Temple, 26-24.
SET 3 (Temple 15, USF 25)
South Florida came out strong, using a 10-2 surge to build a 17-6 lead.
The Bulls controlled the rest of the frame, taking it 25-15.
SET 4 (Temple 21, USF 25)
Trailing by as many as four, Temple responded with a 4-0 run highlighted by blocks from Finister and Hummel to pull within two, 15-13.
Later, back-to-back kills from Finister and Greene brought the Owls within one, 21-20.
USF held on to close the match with a 25-21 win.

Temple has now had at least two players reach double-digit kills in 10 straight matches.
