Neal Records 10 Saves as Temple Falls to Penn, 1–0

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team fell to the Penn Quakers on Tuesday evening by a score of 1-0. Preston Neal had a strong outing in recording 10 saves and leaving the Quakers off the scoreboard for the first 84 minutes of play. The Owls will next prepare to continue their homestand against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Oct. 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half started with a defensive standstill, with only two shots by both sides in the first 20 minutes of play. Teo Strand would fire the first shot for Temple in the 27th minute,
- This standstill on the scoreboard would last until the end of the half as Neal hauled in two saves in the 43rd minute, keeping the Quakers off the scoreboard.
- Neal would continue to contribute in the second half of play, including a three-save stretch from the 50th to 52nd minutes, highlighted by a highlight rejection in the air to leave Penn scoreless.
- However, the Quakers would eventually break through in the 85th minute on a shot from the perimeter of the box to deliver the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Neal's 10 saves mark a season-high for the Owls. This is both a team high and a career high for Neal, beating his previous high of nine saves recorded in 2022 as a member of Southern New Hampshire.
- Strand led the Owls with three shots while Rocco Haeufgloeckner recorded a shot on goal.
- Four players for Temple played the full ninety minutes, including Jayden Jackson, Lukas Egarter, Luka Lukic, and Paolo Kampula.
- This was Temple's final non-conference game. The non-conference slate for the Owls was highlighted by a 1-0 win against Lafayette on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
