UC San Diego Hands Temple 91–76 Loss in ESPN Events Invitational

11.24.25 | Men's Basketball

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Temple men's basketball (3-2, 0-0 AMER) fell to UC San Diego(5-0, 0-0 Big West), 91-76 at the State Farm Field House in Kissimmee, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The action started slowly for the Owls, with the Tritons holding an 8-4 advantage four minutes into the first half. Gavin Griffiths would register Temple's first three points from the perimeter, followed by an and-one conversion from Masiah Gilyard to push the Owls within three.
  • AJ Smith capped a 10–3 Temple run with a three-pointer, giving the Owls their first lead of the night at 17–16.
  • UC San Diego would begin to find momentum past the midway point of the first half. An 8-0 run would propel the Tritons to a five-point lead with the team drilling seven three pointers through 14 minutes of play.
  • Masiah Gilyard put the Owls back in front with a four-point play, but the Tritons caught fire down the stretch, making their final seven shots of the half to take a 47–36 lead into the break.
  • The Tritons opened the second half with consecutive threes, bringing their total to 10 from long range. The Owls would then answer with a 7–0 run, highlighted by a fastbreak finish from Derrian Ford that cut the deficit to 10.
  • The following sequence turned into a back-and-forth exchange, with the Tritons eventually regaining momentum, capturing a 17-point lead.
  • UC San Diego maintained control for the rest of the game, led by Leo Beath, who scored 14 consecutive points during a key stretch as the Tritons pulled away for the win.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
