Temple fell to UC San Diego in its ESPN Events Invitational opener, 91–76, on Monday in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Owls traded leads early before the Tritons closed the first half on a strong run to take a 47–36 advantage into halftime.
UC San Diego opened the second half with consecutive three-pointers and maintained control behind a 14-point scoring stretch from Leo Beath.
Masiah Gilyard led Temple with a season-high 16 points, which included a four-point play.
Gavin Griffiths scored in double figures for the fifth time this season and continues to average 12.6 points per game.
The Owls held a 10–2 advantage in offensive rebounding, marking their fourth game this season with the edge on the offensive glass.
Temple will face Princeton in its second matchup in Central Florida on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Scouting Princeton

Princeton enters its second game of the ESPN Events Invitational following an 88–64 loss to Bradley.
Guards Jackson Hickie and Jack Stanton combined for 31 points in the loss, but Bradley outshot the Tigers 14–7 from three-point range.
The Tigers' three wins this season have come against Bucknell (73–63), John Jay (100–59), and Northeastern (70–57).
Princeton also faced No. 25 Kansas earlier this year, falling 76–57 at Allen Fieldhouse.
Junior Dalen Davis leads the team with 16.5 points per game.
Last season, the Tigers finished 19–11 overall and 8–6 in Ivy League play, falling to Yale in the Ivy League Tournament, 59–57.
Princeton has captured three Ivy League titles over the last four seasons, going as far as the Sweet Sitxteen in 2023.
Freshman guard Sebastian Whitfield, a Virginia native, is averaging 5.4 points per game through seven contests.
