The Opening Tip
- Temple (17-14, 9-9 AAC) enters the AAC Tournament with three straight wins, looking to repeat its magical run to the AAC Finals from 2023-24.
- The Owls face a familiar foe in Tulsa – a team they have played twice in their last seven contests, and will now meet for the third time in 29 days. In the previous meetings, each road team claimed victory.
- With recent wins over South Florida, Tulsa, and North Texas, the Cherry and White have matched their longest winning streak of the season.
- With each team stealing a road victory, Steve Settle III has led Temple against the Hurricane in the two matchups, averaging 13 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting .600 from the field. Zion Stanford and Quante Berry have averaged 11.5 points per game each.
- The Owls look to maintain an edge on the boards and at the free-throw line. Temple has averaged 5.5 more rebounds per game against Tulsa and holds a 40-of-50 mark from the stripe compared to Tulsa's 24-of-34.
- Temple's high-octane offense is on pace to set a program record of 79.0 points per game, topping the previous best of 78.5 set in 1955-56.
- Zion Stanford continues to lead the Owls in the absence of Jamal Mashburn Jr., earning back-to-back AAC and Philadelphia Big 5 weekly honor roll honors.
- The winner of No.7 seed Temple and No.10 seed Tulsa advances to the AAC Quarterfinals, meeting No. 2 North Texas on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
AAC Honors
- The American Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday that Jamal Mashburn Jr. was named to the All-AAC Second Team and the AAC All-Newcomer Team.
- Additionally, Aiden Tobiason was selected to the AAC All-Freshman Team.
Scouting Tulsa
- The Golden Hurricane enter Thursday's matchup with a 10-point win over Wichita State on Sunday, snapping a four-game losing skid to close out the regular season on a high note.
- The Owls must limit Keason Willis, who is averaging 20.5 points against Temple this season while shooting 50% (14-of-28) from the floor and grabbing six rebounds per game. Dwon Odom is averaging 15 points, four rebounds, and 8.5 assists in the two previous matchups.
- Tulsa has shot above 50% in its two meetings with Temple, compared to a .440 mark from the Owls.
- Odom joined Mashburn Jr. on the All-AAC Second Team, while Ian Smikle was selected to the AAC All-Freshman Team alongside Aiden Tobiason.
