PHILADELPHIA – Women's tennis fought hard against William & Mary but came up short in doubles play before displaying resilience in singles action.

How It Happen

The Owls struggled in doubles as William & Mary secured the point with wins on two courts. The No. 2 duo of Maria Martinez and Martyna Mackiewicz won 6-2 to Alessandra Anghel and Francesca Davis, followed by Irmak Ozturk and Kelly Richter suffering a 6-2 loss at No. 3. Thamara Kawaratani and Marianthi Christoforidou also dropped their match at No. 1, 6-2, sealing the sweep for the Tribe.
In singles, Temple showed a fight across the lineup. Mackiewicz battled at No. 6 but fell 6-2, 6-2 to Mira Kernagis. Martinez put up a strong effort at No. 5 but was edged out 6-4, 6-4 by Davis. Ozturk kept things close at the top spot, pushing Hedda Gurholt in the first set before falling 7-5, 6-2. Kawaratani played a competitive match at No. 3 but was ultimately defeated 7-5, 6-4.
Richter forced a first-set tiebreak at No. 2 but couldn't hold off Anghel, dropping the match 7-6(6), 6-1. Christoforidou battled in a tight match at No. 4 but was edged out 7-6(4), 6-4 to close the day.
