Owls Drop Conference Opener Against South Florida

3.15.25 | Women's Lacrosse

TAMPA, Fla. – Temple women's lacrosse (2-6, 0-1 AAC) fell to South Florida (7-2, 1-0 AAC),15-9, at Corbett Stadium on Saturday evening. Erin King led the Owls with three goals against USF.

How It Happened 

  • Emily Liberio scored the first goal to start the game, but USF quickly took a 2-1 lead following goals from Sofia Chepenik and Juliana George. Lily Caravela and Sarah Gowman responded for the Owls, putting Temple ahead 3-2 with back-to-back goals in under 29 seconds. South Florida ended the first quarter with another goal from Chepenik to tie the game at 3-3.
  • In the second quarter, the Bulls scored six unanswered goals to take a commanding 9-4 lead heading into halftime. Kaitlyn Stankavage recorded the Owls' lone goal in the second quarter.
  • Coming out of halftime, Sabrina Martin, Laura Conner, and Erin King scored for the Owls, cutting USF's lead to three. The Owls' defense held USF to just one goal in the third quarter, with the Bulls leading 10-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • South Florida added five more goals in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Owls. King netted two goals in the final quarter for Temple, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

Up Next 
The Owls will travel to New Brunswick, N.J., on Thursday to face Rutgers. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
