Owls Fall Short in Road Matchup with Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Temple women's lacrosse (2-7) suffered a 17-9 defeat to Rutgers (7-3) on the road, Thursday night at SHI Stadium. Erin King and Emily Liberio both led the Owls in scoring with two goals.

How It Happened

Emily Liberio put Temple up 2-0 after scoring back-to-back goals in the 11th minute of the game. Following goals from Hilary Elsner and Michelle Warren, Rutgers tied the game at 2-2. However, Jenna Facciolli gave Temple a 3-2 lead after her goal in the final minutes of the first quarter.
The Scarlet Knights outscored Temple in the second quarter, netting eight goals, while Erin King and Lily Caravela added goals for the Owls. Rutgers took a commanding 10-5 lead over Temple heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Rutgers tacked on six more goals to extend their lead to 16-6, with King scoring her second goal, the Owls' only goal of the quarter.
Sabrina Martin scored in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Scarlet Knights added three more goals to secure a 19-7 victory.
