Owls Suffer Overtime Defeat at the Hands of ECU

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's lacrosse came up short in an overtime battle with ECU, losing 11-10 at Howarth Field on Saturday afternoon. Sarah Gowman earned her first collegiate hat trick with three goals, while Emily Liberio and Erin King each scored two goals.
How It Happened
- The Pirates secured a 4-2 lead in the first quarter, following goals from Riley Matthiesen, Katelyn Sclafani, Rachel Chessock, and Erin Gulden. Kaitlyn Stankavage and Emily Liberio scored for the Owls in the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Owls scored four goals, including two from Gowman, one from King, and another from Lily Caravela. ECU's Chessock scored the lone goal for the Pirates, as Temple took a 6-5 lead into halftime.
- Temple netted four more goals in the third quarter, extending their lead to 10-6 heading into the fourth. Gowman, King, and Liberio scored, while Jenna Facciolli also found the back of the net. The Pirates managed one goal from Gulden in the third quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, ECU tied the game in the final 10 seconds with a free-position goal from Leah Bestany, capping a run of four unanswered goals. Heading into overtime, ECU claimed an 11-10 victory over Temple, thanks to a game-winning goal from Matthiesen.
Up Next
The Owls will travel to Nashville on Saturday, April 5, to take on Vanderbilt. Game time is set for 10:30 AM and will be televised on ESPN+.
