Opening Tip

  • After a pair of tight wins, the Temple University men's basketball team hosts North Texas on Senior Day at the Liacouras Center in the regular-season finale.
  • Temple will honor seniors Steve Settle III, Jamal Mashburn Jr., Christian Tomasco, Matteo Picarelli, and Shane Dezonie for their contributions on the hardwood, in the classroom, and in the community at approximately 1:40 p.m. Additionally, senior managers Morgan Truckermiller, Lucas Gall, Caleb Brennan, Ryan Lenkaitis, and Abhijit Choudhury will be recognized.
  • Zion Stanford led the Owls in their latest victory at Tulsa, scoring 20 points and pulling down eight rebounds. The sophomore from Philadelphia has stepped up in the absence of Mashburn Jr., averaging 22.0 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 48.5% from the field over the past four contests.
  • Despite playing just eight players, Temple showed off its depth in the win over Tulsa, as all eight registered at least seven points. Each sank at least one free throw, and four Owls grabbed at least four rebounds.
  • Temple, which ranks fourth nationally in free throws made per game and sixth in free throws attempted, converted 21-of-26 from the stripe against Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane also attempted 26 free throws but made just 17. Temple's four-point margin of victory matched the free-throw differential.

Scouting North Texas

  • The Mean Green (23-6, 14-3 AAC) enter Sunday on a conference-best seven-game winning streak and can secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming AAC Championships with a win over Temple. They can also lock up the No. 2 seed if Florida Atlantic defeats East Carolina.
  • UNT thrives defensively, leading the conference and ranking third nationally in scoring defense by allowing just 59.3 points per game. Despite owning the league's lowest scoring offense, they lead the AAC in scoring margin (+9.2).
  • Senior guard Atin Wright leads the offense with 14.9 points per game, a 42.3% clip from beyond the arc (first in the AAC), and a nation-leading 94.7% mark at the free-throw line. In the first meeting this season on Jan. 22, Temple held Wright to 2-of-9 from the field for nine total points.
  • Brennen Lorient led UNT with 20 points in its 76-67 win at the Super Pit. Temple's Quante Berry recorded a career-high 24 in that matchup, while Zion Stanford scored 17 and Jamal Mashburn Jr. added 16. Temple trailed by a single point at halftime, as UNT shot 56% in the second half en route to the nine-point victory.
  • Since losing to UAB on Feb. 3, the Mean Green have limited opponents to 40% from the field and 26.2% from three-point range. Wright is averaging 19.1 points per game over that stretch.

AAC Championship Seeding Scenarios

With one regular-season game remaining, Temple can finish as the No. 6, No. 7, or No. 8 seed, depending on this weekend's results. A Cherry and White victory assures the Owls of no worse than a No. 7 seed; a loss would mean either a No. 7 or No. 8 seed.

If Temple defeats North Texas

  • A Temple win, a Wichita State win over Tulsa, and a Florida Atlantic loss to East Carolina would give the Owls the No. 6 seed.
  • If Temple wins and Florida Atlantic also wins, the Owls receive the No. 7 seed regardless of Wichita State's outcome.

If Temple falls to North Texas

  • Temple lands at No. 7 if East Carolina defeats Wichita State.
  • Temple falls to No. 8 if Wichita State beats East Carolina.
