Novoseltseva Finishes Third; Four Owls Place at Mid-Atlantic/South Regional

MADISON, N.J. - Senior Anna Novoseltseva earned a third-place finish in foil as members of the No. 8 Temple fencing team participated in the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional at Drew University on Saturday. Three other Owls finished in the top 10 in their respective weapons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Round
The Owls will await NCAA selections to be made by the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee on Tuesday, March 11.The NCAA Championships which will be held March 20-23 at Penn State University. NCAA qualification is based on a formula that weighs regional performance at 60% and regular-season results at 40%. Regional champions in each weapon earn automatic bids, while the remaining spots are allocated based on performance and regional standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Round
- Novoseltseva, fellow foilists Natalie Adams-Kim and Renee Oymann, epeeist Lindsey Minor, and sabreist Samantha Nathanson earned a bye into the second pool to begin the day due to their original seeding.
- In the first pool of the day, foilist Constanca Dimas finished 12th and advanced to the quarterfinal round.
- In epee, sophomore Grace Smith placed second in the initial pool, going 6-0 with a +18 touch score. Additionally, freshman Victoria Doroshkevich earned a 13th-place finish and advanced to the next pool.
- Sabreists Eva Ventura and Alexandra Weinberg finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the first pool and advanced.
- In the quarterfinal foil pool, Novoseltseva led the Owls with a seventh-place finish. She was followed by Adams-Kim (10th), Oymann (12th), and Dimas (13th), with all four advancing to the semifinal pools.
- The three epeeists also moved on to the semifinals, as Smith finished 14th, Minor 17th, and Doroshkevich claimed the final qualifying spot at 18th.
- All three sabreists advanced as well, with Ventura placing 12th, Nathanson 17th, and Weinberg 18th.
- Three foilists advanced to the finals with strong performances in the semifinals. Novoseltseva went 4-0 and finished second, while Adams-Kim placed sixth and Oymann tenth.
- Doroshkevich was the lone Owl to reach the epee finals, finishing tenth in the pool—an eight-spot improvement from her second-round finish.
- No sabreists advanced to the finals, as all three finished outside the top 12.
- Novoseltseva finished 7-3 in the final pool, earning a third-place finish—her highest regional placement. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native improved upon last year's fifth-place finish.
- Joining Novoseltseva in the top 10 were Adams-Kim in eighth and Oymann in tenth.
- Freshman Doroshkevich impressed by reaching the finals and securing an 11th-place finish in her first regionals.
