PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The Temple University men's crew team hit the river for the first day of IRA National Championships on Friday. The first and second varsity eights advanced to the C/D semifinal round on Saturday, while the third varsity eight will take part in the C final on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The No. 16 varsity eight crew was the first Temple team to race, finishing fifth in its heat to advance to the C/D semifinal round on Saturday.
The Owls, who have adjusted the lineup based on injuries since Dad Vails, finished in front of MIT and will square off against Wisconsin, Columbia, Oregon State, Holy Cross and MIT in the semis.
The top three finishers in the C/D semifinal will advance to the C final on Sunday.
In the second race of the day, the No. 15 second varsity eight also closed in fifth place of its heat and will have a C/D semifinal on Saturday.
Racing out of lane five, the Owls finished over seven seconds in front of Gonzaga and will take on the Bulldogs again in the semis, in addition to Cornell, La Salle, Oregon State, and UC San Diego.
The third and final entry was the third varsity eight crew, who closed in fifth place and will move to the C final on Sunday.

Temple's top two varsity boats will take part in the C/D semifinal round on Saturday, May 31 at the Cooper River.
