Owls Earn 3-0 Victory Over Iona in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer secured a 3-0 shutout victory over Iona on Thursday night at Temple Sports Complex. Valentina Bitterwolf, Ariana Gronauer, and Sabrina Campbell each scored a goal in the win.
How It Happened
- Gronauer put the Owls on the board early with a sixth-minute goal, assisted by Addie Harris.
- At halftime, Temple and Iona were tied with five shots on goal apiece. Iona led in corner kicks with seven, while the Owls had four in the first half.
- Goalkeeper Tamsin Bynoe recorded three saves as Iona's Ava Barker, Dolene Smith, and Marissa Graziano were unable to convert their opportunities.
- In the second half, Temple's attack gained momentum. Campbell extended the lead with a goal early in the half, assisted by Shari Atkins.
- In the 63rd minute, Bitterwolf capitalized on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box by Barker, sealing the 3-0 win for the Owls.
- Freshman Teagan Harkins and Bitterwolf led the team in shots with three each. Gronauer and Eva Matesich added two shots apiece.
Up Next
Temple heads to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game is scheduled to be televised on ESPN+.
