Owls Close Rose Hill Classic With Strong Fight Against Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Temple women's volleyball (6-4) dropped a 3-1 decision to undefeated Hofstra (7-0) on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Rose Hill Classic, held at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 28, Hofstra 26)
After trailing 6-2 early, Temple's defense stepped up with four blocks to close the gap to 15-13, sparking a 3-0 scoring run.
Kills and blocks from Mariyana Cardwell, Leia Harper, and Alyssa Finister gave the Owls a 20-17 lead.
After battling through four set points, Daniella Gonzalez Murati sealed the win with back-to-back aces, taking the first set 28-26.
SET 2 (Temple 15, Hofstra 25)
Hofstra's offense came alive with six early kills, jumping ahead 17-8.
Kills from Cardwell and Christiana Greene chipped away at the deficit, but the Pride took the set convincingly, 25-15.
SET 3 (Temple 25, Hofstra 27)
Finister scored four of Temple's first nine points, giving the Owls a 9-7 edge.
Her back-to-back kills put Temple up 23-21 late in the set.
Despite 13 ties and four lead changes, Hofstra edged out the Owls 27-25 in a tightly contested frame.
SET 4 (Temple 20, Hofstra 25)
Temple erased a four-point deficit with a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 17-15.
But Hofstra answered with a 6-0 run of their own to close out the set and match.

Temple recorded eight assisted blocks in the opening set.
Olivia Hummel posted a career-high 21 digs.
