Simon Named to Manning Award Stars of the Week
9.2.25 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Redshirt senior quarterback Evan Simon has been named to this week's slate of Manning Award Stars of the Week after his standout performance in the 42-10 victory over Massachusetts this past Saturday.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 570 different quarterbacks from 135 schools have been recognized. Seventy-four players were honored during the 2024 season.
Simon threw for six touchdowns in Temple's season opener against the UMass Minutemen. This performance set a career high for Simon and tied a school record that has only been accomplished twice - once in 1966, and another in 2008. His six touchdown passes double any other quarterback in the American Conference. 16 out of 17 of his completions to wide receivers resulted in Owl's first downs. Completing 19 of 25 passes for 248 yards, he had the same amount of touchdown passes as he did incompletions.
College football fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 9 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. To vote, click the link above.
