9.23.25 | Football
Buffalo's LT Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and SAF Sam Franklin (2016-19) opened week 3 with a 31-21 win over Miami on Thursday Night Football. Once again, Dawkins helped lead the way as the Bills offense gained 360 yards, including 108 rushing yards and one touchdown by James Cook. Franklin was solid on special teams but had no tackles.
On Sunday, a number of NFL games came down to the final minutes, including three that involved a blocked field goal playing a part in the exciting ending.
Tampa Bay held off the New York Jets pulling out a 29-27 win with a game ending field goal. However, inside two minutes the Bucs had a field goal attempt blocked and returned for a New York score giving the Jets a 27-26 lead. Todd Bowles' (1982-85) squad marched down the field and connected on a 36-yard field goal as time expired to secure the win. LB Haason Reddick (2013-16) collected three tackles in the win.
Green Bay and kicker Brandon McManus (2009-12) were not as fortunate. The Packers traveled to Cleveland and held a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter. The Browns tied the game at 10 before McManus lined up for a 43-yard FG attempt with 43 seconds on the clock. That attempt was blocked and led to a Cleveland FG to win the game 13-10 as time expired.
While no Owls participated in the game at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles battled the Rams and came back from a 26-7 deficit to take a 27-26 lead with two second remaining. Los Angles lined up for a game-winning 44-yard FG. However, the Eagles blocked the kick and retuned it for a touchdown to send the home crowd home happy with a 33-26 victory.
Washington Commanders LB Jordan Magee (2019-23) and DE/LB Jacob Martin (2014-17) played host to the Raiders and came away with a 41-24 win. Magee received his most playing time of the season and responded with three tackles. Martin added two tackles of his own.
Atlanta's DE/LB Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) had two tackles in a 30-0 loss at Carolina.
The weekend concluded with Detroit and CB Rock Ya-Sin (2018) taking on the Ravens in Baltimore on Monday Night Football. The Lions topped the Ravens 38-30 with Ya-Sin contributing two tackles.
Jacksonville's CB Christian Braswell (2017-20) did not play in a 17-10 win over Houston. San Francisco's OL Matt Hennessy (2016-19) did not play in a 16-15 victory over Arizona. Tennessee's TE David Martin-Robinson (2018-23) did not play in a 41-20 loss to Indianapolis.
The following players remain on inactive rosters:
Baltimore – WR Keith Kirkwood (2014-17) – Practice Squad
Detroit – OL Michael Niese (2020-21) – Practice Squad; TE Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) - Injured
