Rigbert Nets First Career Goal as Owls Earn Road Draw
9.5.25 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Temple men's soccer team drew even against the Army Black Knights on Friday evening, earning a 1-1 result on the road. Elliot Rigbert struck in the seventh minute to give the Owls an early advantage, but a penalty later in the first half allowed Army to equalize. With the result, Temple's record shifts to 0-3-2 while the Black Knights are now 1-1-2.
How it Happened
- Rigbert struck first off an assist from Charlie Votel in the seventh minute, to give the Owls an early 1-0 advantage.
- Diego Dauzier was strong in goal during the early stages, denying the Black Knights a chance with a key save in the 15th minute.
- However, a foul in the box provided Army with a penalty opportunity, and Ronald Zhai capitalized in the 30th minute to tie the match — a score that held for the rest of the first half.
- The second half was a back-and-forth affair till the Owls gained momentum towards the homestretch. Votel, Rocco Haeufgloeckner, and Nore Sumner would each fire shots over the last five minutes of action, as the Owls looked to capitalize on a corner opportunity. Army's backline would hold strong as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
By the Numbers
- Rigbert recorded the first goal of his collegiate career tonight against Army. The Sophomore from Vaxholm, Sweden, tallied four shots on goal in 2024.
- Luka Lukic added to the Temple attack with two shots, with one being on goal. The Reigning Philly Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week played all 90 minutes, making an impact on both sides of the pitch.
- Votel's assist is the first of his collegiate career. The Sophomore currently leads the Owls with five shots over the campaign.
- Five Owls played the full 90 minutes, including Sumner, Lukic, Jayden Jackson, Lukas Egarter, and Paolo Kampula. This marks the most field players to go the distance in a match this season.
