LAST TIME OUT
Temple now sits at 2-0 for the first time since the 2019 season after a resounding 55-7 victory last Saturday against the Howard Bison in Philadelphia. Temple's offense and defense shined in the win which allowed a lot of Owls to get in on the action. For the second consecutive game, Temple scored on its first drive and led at halftime. The Owls accomplished each of those only one time during the entire 2024 season. Quarterback Evan Simon and the running game steered the ship for Temple in the first half of the game. Simon only tossed the ball ten times, but he completed eight of those ten passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns. Simon also got in on the run game action, rushing for 46 yards.
The running backs ate all game long and it was thanks to the success by the offensive line up front. Temple's 329 rushing yards are its most since posting 534 yards on the ground against Army on Nov. 17, 2012. The Owls outrushed the Bison by 247 yards (329-82) is its highest rushing-yard margin since outrushing Buffalo by 329 yards (400-71) on Oct. 15, 2011. The Owls compiled 329 rushing yards without a 100-yard rusher. Temple previously rushed for over 300 yards without an 100-yard rusher against UConn (Nov. 24, 2018). Those are the only two contests since at least 1995 that Temple has registered 300-yard rushing without an 100-yard rusher (13 games). Running back Jay Ducker was the leader in attempts and yards out of the RB room as he ran eight times for 87 yards total.
The 48-point win for Temple is the eighth time the Owls have defeated a team by that margin in program history. The most recent occurred happened in a 57-7 victory at UConn on Nov. 24, 2018.
Five members of the team notched their first touchdown doning the Cherry and White. Wide receivers Colin Chase and JoJo Bermudez each hauled in passes for their first scores. Running backs Jay Ducker and Hunter Smith rushed into the end zone against the Bison to secure their first touchdowns at Temple. Quarterback Gevani McCoy tossed his first touchdown pass as an Owl in the second half of the game for his first.
On the defensive side of the ball, this is the best start a Temple defense has had since the 2011 season. The Owls defense has only allowed 17 points through the first two games. This is the lowest amount since the 2011 season when Temple gave up just ten points through the opening two games. Defensive end Cam'Ron Stewart ranks second in the American Conference in sacks through week two (3).
OKLAHOMA IN 2025
Oklahoma comes into week three an undefeated 2-0. The Sooners opened the season with a resounding 35-3 win over Illinois State at home. The team followed that performance up with a signature win over No. 15 Michigan. Oklahoma played host to this top-25 match up and came out on top with a 24-13 win over the Wolverines. Entering week three the Sooners sit at No. 13 in the AP top-25 rankings.
