Greene Shines As Temple Loses Battle To FAU

PHILADELPHIA - Temple Volleyball (10-7) fell to FAU (10-6) in five sets Friday night in McGonigle Hall. FAU jumped out to a 2-0 set lead but Temple showed a ton of fight tying the match at 2-2 and nearly completing the comeback. Christiana Greene was fantastic tonight as she recorded a season high in kills and points with 19 and 20.5.
Set:1 (Temple 23 - FAU 25)
- The match started off back and forth as the game stayed within one until Temple took at 3 point lead at 12-15.
- After the media timeout Jaya Moore extended the Owls lead to 4 with a kill.
- FAU was able to come back and tie the game at 18, and it was back and forth until set point where FAU would go on to win 23-25.
Set:2 (Temple 21 - FAU 25)
- Temple took a 2-0 lead to start but FAU was able to come back and go up one at 6-7 early in set two.
- FAU would then go on a five point run, and was leading at the media timeout 15-9.
- Temple would close the gap within two with a Greene kill at 19-21, but FAU would hold and go on to win the set at 21-25.
Set:3 (Temple 25- FAU 22)
- Temple would take a three point lead early at 9-6 with kills from Greene and Lexi Yoza. Greene was electric in this set, willing an Owl comeback.
- FAU would fight their way back and tie the set at 13. But Temple would swing momentum their way with a 4 point run to lead the set at 17-14.
- FAU would tie the game again at 18, but Temple was resilient and won the set 25-22 with an Olivia Hummel kill.
Set:4 (Temple 25 - FAU 20)
- The forth set was highlighted with early scoring from Temple; Greene, Hummel and Moore all contributed to the two point lead at 12-10. And at the media time out Temple led by one at 15-14.
- After the media timeout Greene took over recording three straight kills to extend the Temple lead to 18-16.
- Temple was relentless the rest of the way and closed out with a 25-20 forcing a 5th set.
Set:5 (Temple 15 - FAU 17)
- The final set was deadlocked within one until Temple went on a 4-0 run ignited by a Moore and Sarah Quarells block as the Owls led 8-5.
- FAU would respond going on a three point run of their own, tying the set at 11.
- The set would go to extra points as neither side wanted to concede a victory, but FAU would go on to win the set 17-15, and the match in a 5 set thriller.
Next Up
The Owls will host North Texas this Sunday October 11th at noon to conclude homecoming weekend.
