Opening Tip
- After losing its first road game since Jan. 14 in a 77-66 loss to the Tulane Green Wave, the Temple University men's basketball team looks to bounce back against the North Texas Mean Green on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Owls head back to the Liacouras Center, looking to claim their 10th home win of the season, with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.
- Following a 77-66 loss at Tulane on Wednesday night, the Owls return to Philadelphia after falling into a tie for third place in the conference alongside Charlotte.
- Last time out, the Owls found themselves in a tied game at halftime for the first time this season, but Tulane quickly seized momentum, going on a 26-8 run over the opening ten minutes of the half to create separation.
- Derrian Ford delivered a conference-play high 26 points, shooting 4-of-7 from three-point range and 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Jordan Mason added 15 points, while Aiden Tobiason tied his career high with eight rebounds. Defensively, the Owls limited Tulane's Rowan Brumbaugh, the conference's second-leading scorer entering the night, to 11 points.
- Temple cut the deficit to single digits late with an 8-9 run, but was unable to complete the comeback. The Owls will now look to regroup on their home floor Sunday afternoon, where they have found consistent success this season, as they prepare to host North Texas.
Scouting North Texas
- North Texas enters Sunday riding back-to-back wins over UTSA (81–58) and Memphis (76–69). Junior Cole Franklin scored a career-high 21 at UTSA, while Je'Shawn Stevenson extended his double-figure streak to 15 games with 16 points against Memphis, as the Mean Green held the Tigers scoreless over the final 2:19.
- Defense has been the program's identity, ranking first in the American in scoring defense (66.3), steals (10.0), and three-point percentage defense (29.3), while sitting seventh nationally in steals per game. North Texas has led the league in scoring defense every year since 2020-21.
- Three players average double figures: Stevenson (17.0), Will McClendon (13.0), and David Terrell Jr. (12.9). The Mean Green also ranks third in the conference with 14.1 fastbreak points per game.
- North Texas leads the all-time series 2–1, with the home team winning each matchup. The Mean Green have two wins at the Super Pit, while Temple claimed a regular-season finale victory at the Liacouras Center in 2024-25.
- In the last meeting, Temple earned a 66–61 win, using a 10–0 run to seize control. Shane Dezonie delivered a key late layup, Steve Settle III and Quante Berry sealed it at the line, and Zion Stanford led a dominant rebounding effort.
