Opening Tip

  • After being on the wrong end of another tight loss, the Temple University men's basketball team will look to erase its season-long five-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon when Temple will face Rice in a Senior Day matchup on ESPN+.
  • Temple dropped a 77-73 decision at Florida Atlantic after FAU used a late and-one and clutch free throws in the final minute to erase a brief Temple lead and seal the game at the line.
  • Gavin Griffiths and Derrian Ford each scored 20 points while Aiden Tobiason added 19, as Temple's strong first half from three and late push were not enough to overcome FAU's 10-to-2 second half run and closing execution.
  • In Temple's last meeting with Rice this past January, the Owls erased an early deficit and prevailed 69-65 on the road in a game that featured 12 lead changes, closing on a 15-11 run over the final 6:22 after the score was tied at 54.
  • Ford, Tobiason and Mason each scored 15 points in the win, as Temple shot 14-17 from the free throw line, committed just six turnovers, and went a perfect 7-7 at the stripe in the closing stretch.
  • Now back on its home floor, Temple will look to draw on that January road win and flip the script in this pivotal Senior Day matchup.

Scouting Florida Atlantic

  • Rice enters Sunday having dropped four of its last five games, most recently a 75-56 loss to conference-leading South Florida. The Owls are tied for 11th in the American at 5-10 in league play.

  • Rice can stretch the floor, ranking third in the conference with 9.1 made three-pointers per game.
  • Trae Broadnax (16.0 ppg) and Nick Anderson (15.3 ppg) pace the offense. Broadnax ranks fourth in the American in field goal percentage (.443), while Anderson is second in three-point percentage (.339) and fifth in threes per game (2.61).
