Women’s Tennis Set for Two Match Week Against Norfolk State and Penn

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University women's tennis team is set for two matchups this week against Norfolk State and Penn. The Owls last played in Florida over spring break, sweeping North Carolina A&T before falling to Barry.

Last Time Out

Temple went 1-1 during its spring break trip to Florida, sweeping North Carolina A&T 7-0 before falling 7-0 to No. 1 Barry, with a match vs. Sacred Heart canceled due to rain.
The Owls dominated NC A&T, winning all three doubles matches and all six singles contests to extend their win streak to four.
Irmak Ozturk was the lone singles player to win a set against Barry, taking the first set 6-3 before falling in the match against Dana Heimen.

Scouting Norfolk State

The Spartans have put together a 4-6 record so far in 2026, last falling to Longwood at home, 4-3.
Last season, the Spartans went 12-12, including an unfinished result against the Owls.
Entering his fifth season at the helm, Peter Banas has compiled a 24-66 mark with the Spartans.

Scouting Penn

Penn currently owns a 7-7 record this season, most recently downing Western Carolina, 6-1.
Temple travelled to Penn to participate in the Cissie Leary Invitational this past fall, where Thamara Kawaratani led the way with an undefeated singles weekend as the Owls collected multiple singles and doubles victories across the three-day event.
Head Coach Sanela Kunovac, a Penn alumna, has led the Quakers for over a decade. Last season, she led Penn to a 12-9 record, including a 7-0 win over the Owls.
