Owls Open Home Stand Thursday Against Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University men's tennis team is set for two home matches this week, facing Saint Joseph's on Thursday, before going against Howard on Saturday.

Last Time Out

  • Temple edged Norfolk State 4-3, earning its fifth win of the season in a tightly contested match at the Temple Tennis Complex.
  • After dropping the doubles point, the Owls rallied with four singles victories from Aayush Bhat, Lance Cochran, Oliver Aguilar, and Erden Er to secure the comeback.
  • Er clinched the match with a straight-sets win, including a first-set tiebreak, sealing the 4-3 decision for Temple.

Scouting Saint Joseph's

  • The Hawks enter play holding a 9-8 record this season, winning their last two matches against Chestnut Hill (4-2) and Fordham (4-1).
  • Saint Joe's put together a 9-18 record in 2025, with the Owls earning a 5-2 win in their last encounter.
  • In his third season on Hawk Hill, head coach Jeff Puhan leads both the men's and women's programs for Saint Joseph's. Prior to his arrival, Puhan spent nearly two decades as the head tennis professional at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he also served as the director of junior tennis.

Scouting Howard

  • Howard enters play with an 0-5 record with losses against Georgetown, Villanova, Delaware, George Mason, and North Carolina Central.
  • The Owls and Bison met last year with Temple pulling away with a 4-1 win.
  • Nicholas Askew serves as the Director of Tennis for the Bison. A former dual sport athlete, Askew also serves as the head of Howard's swimming and diving program.
