Owls Return Home for Three-Match Stretch Beginning Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University women's tennis team is set for three matches this week, facing Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, before playing both Howard and Villanova over the weekend.
Last Time Out
- Temple split the week, sweeping Norfolk State 4-0 before falling to Penn 4-1 to move to 6-6 on the season.
- The Owls secured the doubles point against Norfolk State and won three singles matches, highlighted by three-set victories from Irmak Ozturk, Marianthi Christoforidou, and Yasmin Costa.
- Against Penn, Maria Martinez earned Temple's lone point with a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles.
- The Hawks enter play holding a 1-12 record this season, with the team's lone win coming against Oral Roberts in the season opener.
- Saint Joe's put together a 6-19 record in 2025, with the Owls earning a 6-1 win in their last encounter.
- In his third season on Hawk Hill, head coach Jeff Puhan leads both the men's and women's programs for Saint Joseph's. Prior to his arrival, Puhan spent nearly two decades as the head tennis professional at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he also served as the director of junior tennis.
Scouting Howard
- Howard has a 1-7 record, downing George Mason 4-2 on the road for the Bison's lone win of the season.
- The two sides faced off last season, with the Owls earning a 4-1 victory in Washington D.C.
- Nicholas Askew serves as the Director of Tennis for the Bison. A former dual sport athlete, Askew also serves as the head of Howard's swimming and diving program.
Scouting Villanova
- Villanova has put together a 9-6 record, recently stringing together a four-match winning streak against Saginaw Valley State (4-0), St. Bonaventure (6-1), Loyola Md. (5-2), and Saint Joseph's (7-0).
- Last season, the Wildcats went an even 12-12, including a tight 4-3 win against the Temple Owls. The team went on to the Big East Championship in the postseason before falling to Xavier.
- Head Coach Steve Reiniger has led the charge for Villanova since the 1990's. He has led the Wildcats to at least the second round of the Big East tournament in each of the last two seasons.
