Owls Battled on the Road Against JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Temple women's lacrosse (8–4, 0–3 American) fell to James Madison (6–5, 2–1 American), 16–10, Saturday morning at Sentara Park. Amelia Wright led the Owls with a season-high five goals, surpassing 100 career goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
James Madison struck first with early goals from Payton Root and Kaitlyn Carney to take a 2–0 lead. Sabrina Martin got Temple on the board with a free-position goal to cut the deficit to one, but Carney added another late in the quarter to give the Dukes a 3–1 advantage after one.
Wright sparked the Owls in the second quarter, scoring back-to-back goals to tie the game at 3–3. JMU responded with a goal from Maya Antonakas to regain the lead, and later used a three-goal run to push its advantage to 6–3. Wright completed her hat trick during the stretch, keeping Temple within reach at 6–4.
The Dukes took control in the third quarter, opening with three quick goals to extend their lead to 9–4. After a prolonged scoring run by JMU, freshman Brooke Mazzei ended the momentum with a goal off an assist from Sarah Gowman. Gowman and Wright each added goals late in the quarter as Temple trimmed the deficit to 14–7 heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Root added another goal for James Madison before Kali Saito responded for the Owls. Gowman netted her second goal of the game, and Wright added her fifth of the day, but Temple was unable to close the gap as the Dukes secured the 16–10 victory.

Temple returns to Howarth Field on Saturday, April 4, to host Old Dominion. First draw is set for noon, and the game will feature a Salute to Service honoring the military.
