Dr. Tina Sloan Green Named WeCOACH Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

PHILADELPHIA – Dr. Tina Sloan Green was selected to receive the WeCOACH Lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious WeCOACH Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes women in sports who have succeeded at the highest levels of their careers while demonstrating unwavering commitment, a pioneering spirit, and trailblazing leadership. Honorees are celebrated for empowering and paving the way for girls and women across all sports and levels for generations to come.
This year's distinguished class represents more than 180 years of coaching experience, over 5,000 career wins, and more than 46 national and state championships combined. Among the honorees is Dr. Tina Sloan Green, former Temple University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach.
Dr. Tina Sloan Green served as the first African American head coach of a women's college lacrosse team at Temple University, leading the program from 1975 to 1992. During her tenure, Temple became a national powerhouse, winning three national championships and making 11 consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances.
A trailblazer beyond lacrosse, she was the first African American woman to play for the U.S. Women's National Field Hockey Team. Green has been inducted into multiple halls of fame and received the NCAA's Theodore Roosevelt Award in recognition of her lifelong impact on expanding opportunities in sport.
As Co-Founder and President Emerita of the Black Women in Sport Foundation, she has advanced opportunities for Black women and girls while supporting major national sport initiatives. A prolific author and mentor, she has dedicated her career to promoting equity and inclusion in athletics.
The 2025–26 honorees will be formally recognized on Monday evening, May 18, in conjunction with the Women Coaches Academies in Denver, Colorado.
