Five Owl Programs Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards for Academic Progress Rate

A total of 11 teams post perfect single-year APR scores

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University Athletics continued its strong academic performance in the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, with five programs earning Public Recognition Awards for ranking among the top teams nationally in their respective sports.

Men's Golf, Women's Fencing, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball were recognized by the NCAA for finishing in the top 10 percent of their sport, including ties, based on multiyear APR scores.

The APR is an annual NCAA metric that tracks the academic progress of student-athletes through eligibility, retention and graduation.

"Temple Athletics takes great pride in the academic success of our student-athletes," Vice President/Debbie and Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson said. "These results reflect the commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, faculty, athletic support staff and the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes staff. We are proud of the way our programs continue to excel in competition and in the classroom."

Temple recorded a 989 single-year APR score and a 986 multiyear APR score across its athletic programs. A total of 11 teams earned perfect single-year APR marks of 1000: Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Women's Basketball, Women's Fencing, Field Hockey, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball.

Several programs continued lengthy streaks of perfect single-year APR scores. Men's Golf and Women's Gymnastics each reached 1000 for the seventh consecutive year, while Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball did so for the fifth straight year. Women's Fencing earned a perfect single-year score for the fourth consecutive year, and Men's Cross Country posted a 1000 for the third straight year.

Temple also continued to stand out in multiyear APR success. Women's Fencing, Women's Gymnastics and Men's Golf each earned perfect multiyear scores of 1000 for the fourth consecutive year. Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball each reached 1000 in multiyear APR for the second straight year.

Men's Basketball also ranked near the top of the conference, finishing second with a multiyear APR score of 994, just behind Florida Atlantic's 995.
