George DeLeone, a 46-year coaching veteran, re-joined the staff in 2016 as run game coordinator / offensive line coach.

This will be DeLeone's second stint with the Owls. He was originally on Temple’s staff from 2006-07. During that time, he was the Owls’ offensive coordinator and worked with the quarterbacks (’06) and offensive line (’07). Matt Rhule was a Temple assistant on defense in 2006 but moved to quarterback coach in 2007.
DeLeone has spent 40 yeras on the college sidelines and has coached in 13 bowl games, including the Fiesta, Orange, Peach and Sugar Bowls.Â

The 67-year old DeLeon comes back to Temple after spending the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns coaching their offensive line. In 2015, the Browns had two Pro Bowl players – both offensive linemen – C Alex Mack and LT Joe Thomas.

The New Haven, Connecticut, native began his coaching career at Southern Connecticut in 1970, coaching the offensive line for six years before becoming head coach from 1976–79. He moved to Rutgers as the defensive line coach in 1980, became defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for two seasons, before becoming offensive coordinator and special teams coach for his final year. He spent 1984 as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Holy Cross. He then began his first of two stints at Syracuse in 1985, where he coached the offensive line for 12 years, serving as offensive coordinator for the final 10 seasons.

DeLeone joined the NFL for the first time in 1997 as the San Diego Chargers offensive line coach, but after one year returned to Syracuse for another seven seasons. During that time, he was associate head coach and defensive coordinator (’98) before becoming associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 1999. For the next five years, DeLeone was associate head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

In 2005, DeLeone served as the running game coordinator and offensive line coach at Ole Miss. He then came to Temple for a two-year stint with the Owls.

Since leaving Philadelphia, DeLeone coached tight ends for the Miami Dolphins for three seasons; worked at UConn, his alma mater, from 2011–13, serving as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach for the first two years before becoming associate head coach and offensive line coach in 2013; he then spent 2014-15 with the Browns.
