Jason Ivey was named Director of Player Development for men’s basketball in April 2019.
Ivey, a former teammate of head coach Aaron McKie’s, played in 126 games for the Owls from 1992-96 and was the sixth man on the team’s 1993 Elite Eight run as a freshman. A member of four NCAA Tournament teams, he started 40 games throughout his career and was an integral part of Temple teams that won 82 games. He scored 624 points and pulled down 564 rebounds and led the Owls in field goal percentage as a junior in 1994-95 and tied for team honors in blocks as a senior.
Following graduation from the Fox School of Business where he earned degrees in General Strategic Management and Business Law, Ivey played professionally in the United States Basketball League with the Philadelphia Power (1997) and then made stops in Australia and China before retiring in 1998. He returned to basketball in 1999 as a graduate assistant with the Owls, spending one season learning under Chaney.
In 2000, Ivey joined former Temple assistant Dean Demopoulos’ staff at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was there seven seasons, the last six under head coach Rich Zvosec. At UMKC, he was not only a coach, but also handled team travel as well as working with the team’s academic counseling.
Following a head coaching change at UMKC, Ivey spent a year away from basketball before becoming the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at Hartford. He was with the Hawks for two seasons before returning to his hometown of Gadsden, Ala. to work at Ronnie Watkins Ford.
A basketball legend at Emma Sansom High School, Ivey was inducted into the Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
