Heidi Freitager, who was most recently a high school coach in Florida, enters her first season as assistant coach for the Temple University softball team. Her primary responsibilities will be as catching coach, recruiting coordinator, and camp/clinic facilitator. While at Everglades High School, Freitager led her team to a #3 USA Today/NFCA national ranking through winning the Florida state championship (2007) and two district championships (2006, 2007). During her time, she was also named Sun Sentinel (2006, 2007) and Miami Herald (2007) Coach of the Year. During this time, Freitager also served as the head coach for the West Pines Diamond Duster travel softball team. Freitager has also coached at the collegiate level, serving as first assistant at Nova Southeastern and Morehead State and second assistant at New Mexico State. Her duties were primarily as pitching coach while assisting with recruiting, event management, travel coordinating, and implementing strength and conditioning programs. Freitager has also served as a clinician at Florida International University, University of Minnesota, Ohio University, and University of Northern Iowa softball camps. Freitager was a talented player for the University of Northern Iowa serving as a four-year starting catcher at the Division I school. She led her team to become conference champions (2000) and runner-up finishes in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament (1998, 1999). She was named to the all tournament team for the University of Minnesota tournament (2000). Freitager was also a star in the classroom, obtaining the Perfect Panther Award for achieving a 4.0 GPA in semester and was a member of the dean's list in 1999, 2000 and 2001. During and following her college playing career, Freitager earned ASA All-American Awards as a member of the Minnesota Breakers Majors/Class A women's team. She also played for the Illinois Elite Force women's majors team, playing in the 2003 Majors National Championship and NSA Women's World Series.
