Tramaine Ellison joined the Temple women’s track and field staff as assistant coach in August, 2016. The Temple alumna, who already had ten years of experience in coaching, returned to Philadelphia from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., where she spent three seasons.

The 2020 indoor track season produced many improvements and career milestones for Ellison’s athletes. Most notably, Aisha Brown captured her first AAC crown, clearing 1.79m on route to a season’s best. Under Ellison’s direction, this performance contributed greatly to Temple earning a program’s best third place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships.

During the 2018-2019 track and field seasons, Aisha Brown continued to show her dominance under Ellison’s training. The sophomore showed her consistency in the outdoor season, once again placing second at the American Athletic Conference Championships and scoring her highest jump of the season, 1.80m. Brown also earned a berth to the NCAA East Regional meet where she placed 16th, a six-place improvement from last year. Brown placed fifth at the indoor conference championships, earning her All-Conference honors for the second year in a row.

During her 2017-2018 season with Temple, Ellison recruited and coached two of the top fifteen freshman high jumpers in the NCAA East Region (#1 Aisha Brown, #11 Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen). Brown's mark of 1.82 resulted in finishing the season tied for the #2 ranked freshman in Division I. She also coached All-AAC performers in both high jump and pentathlon events. In the 2016-2017 season, Ellison coached sophomore Crystal Jones to All-AAC honors in the pentathlon with a second place finish.

At JCSU, Ellison helped coach the women’s track and field team to two CIAA conference championship titles as well as multiple NCAA championship appearances and All-Americans. She had the ability to work with high caliber athletes including a Pan American Jr. Champion, a Canadian Jr. Champion, and a host of NCAA individual and relay champions. Additionally, Ellison was able to coach a walk-on high jumper, Latondra Marrow, to the current school record, winning a CIAA conference title, and earning second team All-American honors, finishing 11th, all in one season. During her tenure, Ellison directly coached her jumpers to five total school records from 2014-2016. She coached her first signee, Michane Ricketts, to a 6th place finish at the NCAA Championships, earning him All-American status as a freshman.
Prior to Johnson C. Smith University, Ellison served as Assistant Track and Field Coach and Massage Therapist at Winston-Salem State University. There she was tasked with injury prevention protocols, equipment management, as well as fundraising and community involvement.

As an active member of the track and field community, she has served as  Site Coordinator for the 2016 Paralympics trials. She was also appointed as Assistant Meet Director for the 2013 Powerade State Games in Charlotte, as well as the JCSU Golden Bull Invitational. Ellison has had the honor of being twice selected as a delegate for the NACAC Congress, traveling to the Dominican Republic and El Salvador. She is also a second year participant of NCAA Minority Leadership Series, nominated by USATF Director of Coaching, Terry Crawford.

Ellison is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. She holds the IAAF’s Level V Elite Coach status along with USATF Level 3, both in jumps. She also serves as the Coach's liaison for the National Women and Girls in Sport Day at Temple while serving as a member of Temple Women's Network.

The Kinston, N.C., native got her coaching start in North Carolina public schools. She spent six years teaching the fundamentals of track of field to middle and high school students at Piedmont, Audrey Kell, Independence, and Western Guilford High Schools.
