Carissa Vittese joined the Temple field hockey staff as director of field hockey operations in the summer of 2015. A native of nearby Cherry Hill, N.J., Vittese was a four-year standout at the University of Virginia.

"We're excited to have Carissa round out our hockey staff for 2015," said head coach Marybeth Freeman. "She comes to Temple with a great hockey IQ and drive for success. Her impact within the program will be seen on many levels, and to have someone like Carissa join our staff makes the 2015 season just that more exciting."

Vittese was a two-time Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team selection as a back for the Cavaliers, and was named to the ACC Second Team as a senior. She played sweeper on a defensive line that recorded six shutouts en route to a 15-6 record in 2013. Vittese helped UVA advance to the NCAA Tournament in three of her four years, including an appearance in the NCAA Semifinals in 2010.

"I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity that Temple has given me," said Vittese. "I cannot wait to work with this talented coaching staff and this incredible field hockey program! I'm looking forward to the season starting and I'm ecstatic to be studying at such a renowned university."

In 2011, Vittese played with the Mid-Atlantic Team at the Junior National Championships, and she was a member of the Olympic Development Squad in 2009-10. She was also a member of the Mid-Atlantic/South team that won the 2013 Women's National Championship in Norfolk, Va. One of Vittese's two sisters, Michelle, was a year ahead of Carissa and also on the team at UVA as well as being a member of the US National Team.

Vittese played for Camden Catholic High School from 2006-09, and was an All-South Jersey Second Team selection as a senior as well as an All-Conference and All-Parochial First Team honoree.

In May of 2014, Vittese graduated from UVA with a degree in psychology. She will be working toward a master's in education leadership for higher education while at Temple.
