Sam Whitney, a 2008 graduate of Temple University, joined the Temple Athletics staff as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in August of 2012. Whitney works primarily with the Olympic sports, designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for those teams. In April of 2016, Whitney was named Associate Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Before arriving at Temple, Whitney spent two years as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University where he was responsible for 14 NCAA Division III teams. Prior to holding that position, Whitney spent two years as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Villanova where he worked with the 2009 FCS National Championship Football team as well as the 2009 Final Four basketball team.
Whitney earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science from Temple in May, 2008. He also earned a master's degree in sports business with a concentration in athletics administration at Temple in May, 2016. He holds certifications from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (CSCS), Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC), USA Weightlifting (Level 1), and the American Heart Association.
