NCAA Championships Committe Confirms Temple University As Host of Men's 2000 East Golf Regional At Glenmaura National

PHILADELPHIA (September 27) -- The Temple University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has been informed by the NCAA Championships Cabinet that it has been confirmed as the host institution for the 2000 East Regional Golf Tournament at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, PA. The competition is scheduled for May 18-20, 2000.
"To have been provided with this opportunity is truly an honor for the Temple University Athletic Department," said Director of Athletics Dave O'Brien. "The Glenmaura National course is a first rate as a site for this competition. Club pro Cleve Coldwater and the Glenmaura administration have displayed a tremendous effort in providing the necessary components to secure the bid. The NCAA, the Atlantic 10 Conference, Temple University and the Glenmaura National Golf Club will all benefit."
Designed by Architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan and the home of touring professional Larry Mize, the championship course at Glenmaura National Golf Club is rated at 74.8 from the back tees, has a slope rating of 144 and a par score of 71. Just last week, the course became an official stop on the 2000 Nike Professional Tour, as the Nike Steamtown Classic was sanctioned for May 29-June 4. Glenmaura has also served as the host site for the Pennsylvania State Mid-Amateur, Senior Amateur and Girls' Junior Amateur, in addition to NCAA Division III Tournaments and the local high school district finals. After just six years of operation, its is already ranked among the top 10 courses in the state of Pennsylvania. It was also ranked among the national top 10 of Golf Digest Magazine's best new courses in 1995.
The largest of three regional qualifying tournaments to the NCAA Championships, the 2000 East Regional will include 120 participants (23 teams, five individuals) vying for 57 positions (11 teams, two individuals) of advancement to the national finals. The overall regional field includes 137 Division I schools, located in 19 eastern states: Maine, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
