| Joe Smith Asks: Hi LeVar, do you think you can win the Butkus? How does it make you feel to be nominated? Go Owls |
Answer: Yea, I hope I can. Its something that if it happens, it happens. I'm just going to keep on doing what I'm doing and hopefully be one of the finalists. Its a tremendous honor for me and Temple University as far as recruitment. To be considered, let's me know that our defense is doing the job and making plays. The defense as a whole is doing the job and it enables me to be nominated for such an award. |
| lawrence talley Asks: TEMPLE IS HAVING A SUCESSFUL SEASON SO FAR,IT'S BEEN GREAT WATCHING THE OWLS COMPETE,WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU GUYS TO GO ON TO KICK MAJOR BUTT AND MAKE A BOWL BID A REALITY. |
Answer: Hello Dad, we just have to continue to go out and execute our plays. This game is real critical for us. It will determine whether we get in a bowl. We have to take one game at a time. |
| EMMANUEL CARLIS Asks: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THE (3) WINS AND THE (3)LOSSES YOU NOW HAVE. |
Answer: We learned one thing positively: we can compete in the Big East and we're more competitive than in the past. Negative: we realized those games were close and we should have won those games, one play here and there was the difference. Looking at the Maryland and WVU games, one play there or here and we would be 5-1. |
| Joe Hannon Asks: LaVar, what is your reasonable expectations regarding the outcomes of your next 5 games. What number of TEMPLE wins would you be willing to guarantee. (I would consider 3 wins and 2 losses reasonable.) |
Answer: I never go into a game thinking that we are going to lose. I think all these games are reachable. The most challenging game is Miami. If we go out there and do our assignments, these games are winnable. Regardless of wins or losses, getting in a bowl game is the goal right now. We are going to win some games. I can guarantee you that. |
| eric Asks: Levar, do you think that the owls can get a bowl bid this year? |
Answer: Yes, definitely. We are going to get a bowl bid this year because our team is very good. We all want to obtain that goal. |
| Johnny Morrison Asks: Hi LeVar! Has the program progressed since you've been there? Do you expect big things in the future for the Owls? |
Answer: As far as the future of Temple football, there's only 3 seniors. As you watch and listen, you can tell that we are a much improved team. With only three seniors and a young team, we will be able to reach higher and better goals than we will do this year. |
| Tequila Johnson Asks: Do you feel that since you are a popular football star that girls come around you more for the wrong reasons? |
Answer: I try to avoid women, basically. I go to school, practice, and I go home. I don't try to expose myself to problems like that. I don't want any of those distractions. I see people on campus and say hello or have a conversation but I don't take it any further than that. |
| Nadine Watkins (Pat's Mom) Asks: LeVar- We are all so proud of you. Keep up the great job. Pat has been trying to get with you for some time now, so at your convenience, give me a call. Also, Temple send Donny letters everyday. Best of Luck for a winning season. Also, tell your parents that I was asking for them, and that my 4th son is a senior at McDevitt and doing well. -Ms. Nadine |
Answer: Hi, I miss you too. I have been so busy. I'll try to get in touch with you. |
| fred hanes Asks: hey var, hey this is fred from high school, i wanted to say hello and i was wondering what type of things do u see as a problem this week from what they like to run on offense and what kind of things do u think you all will do to stop them. fred |
Answer: They are pretty much a pass-oriented team. We are going to have do a lot of pass protection. We have to be in the right spots at the right time. It could be easy to get a lot of picks this week. They run a Purdue offense. We need alot of pass protection, they run alot of "90" games, three step drops, a real fast game. |
| Tom Leonard Asks: First, a hearty congratulations on a superb career at Temple! As a 5th year senior, you've witnessed tremendous growth in the football program at Temple. What are some of the things you would like to see happen to advance the program even further? |
Answer: thank you, I would like to see Temple get their own stadium. I think that would do an awesome job for recruiting, a big crowd would help out alot in making Temple successful in the future. The new practice facility will help the whole atmosphere on campus. Its beautiful. Kids see the facility and it gives them a boost. |
| Christina Odom Asks: Do you want to make football a career? What are your goals? |
Answer: My goals are to have a successful season this year. If God permits the NFL, that would be really nice. I would love to play in the NFL and work with children in the offseason, using my major to work around kids and children with disabilities. |
| Pete Grillo Asks: LeVar, I read in the Philadelphia Inquirer that last Spring the Football team had 16 guys get a 3.0 GPA or better. Coach Wallace said that was the biggest number of guys that have done that since he has been here. What do you think led to this happening and how is the team doing right now in the classroom? |
Answer: First of all that started with our new academic advisor, Dr. Cirvo. That was a major change, people getting the right help in the classroom. Our kids started to realize that in order to be successful, it starts with things off the field. Everyone started realizing that to reach our common goal, its starts in the classroom. You see alot more people being disciplined than in the past and everyone wants to reach our goal. |
| Michael Vick Asks: Hi LeVar, what is the best thing about attending Temple University? |
Answer: The staff, students and the teachers -- everything is really beautiful. As far as in my major, Sport and Recreational Management, my teachers have always been very supportive of me. The students are always very supportive, even when we were losing and having hard times. The coaching staff is excellent, always there for us, on and off the field. |
| Mycah Williams Asks: Hey LeVar, 'sup, do you think you'll be drafted high in the NFL? |
Answer: On a realistic level, no, because of my height. I think alot of people would think that they would be gambling because of my height. But, there are alot of short linebackers. Once they see them competing in the NFL, they realize they can hold their own. I think my height will be a major factor in the NFL, if I get selected. |
| Damian Owen Asks: What made U chose Temple? |
Answer: Temple is close to home. I'm a family person. I wanted my family to come see me play during my collegiate career. I've always looked at Temple as a prestigious school. I could get a good education here. |
| jim baker Asks: I saw that the safeties both got interceptions last game. what do you think of them? |
Answer: I think that our safeties are very good, Shonn Lacey and Lafton Thompson are underrated. They are big time hitters. They're very good and experienced and coming along. I think they are very underrated. |
| Lawrence Talley Asks: What's up baby Bra ? |
Answer: What's up LT? |
| Lawrence Talley Asks: Hello is any body home? |
Answer: Wash the dishes. |
| Billy Johnson Asks: Hi LeVar! What do you do in your down time when not playing ball? |
Answer: I try to spend alot of time with children. I visit the Temple University Children's Hospital. I do my school work of course. I also spend time with children thru Temple Team Mates, Big Brothers, and the other organizations we work with at Temple. |
| #1 fan Asks: Hi LeVar! How do you remain so humble with all of the accomplishments you have made? you seem like such a down to earth guy with all of your volunteer work, team leadership... |
Answer: I just try to keep a level head and do positive things in my life. You can generate alot of positive energy and the team can do positive things. You gotta show that you are not only an athlete but that you can be a good person and show love to your friends and family. That is the key to being sucessful in life. |
| Ja Rule Asks: What current or past pro linebacker does your play most resemble? |
Answer: I would say Sam Mills. That was my idol, the one I always looked at. |
| George T. Asks: Are there any more Talley athletes coming up at McDevitt or elsewhere? |
Answer: No, I'm the last one, unfortunately. Not until I have some kids. I'm the last Talley. |
| Quincy Jones Asks: are you going to the eagles or do you want a ready made team.? |
Answer: I wouldn't mind playing for the Eagles at all. Staying home and having my family see me again. |
| Linda Thomas Asks: Hi LeVar, This message is from Dante`. When can I come to watch you play? I'm ready to learn some tackles. |
Answer: You can come any time you want. You will be the next superstar. (He's three year's old and weighs 70 or 80 pounds.) I love you. |
| George T. Asks: are you related to Darryl Talley? You certainly level running backs the way he did!:)GO OWLS!!!!! |
Answer: No, not that I'm aware of. I always said I was when I was very little. I always followed his collegiate career at West Virginia and later. Thank you for all the questions and Go Owls! Moderator: Thank you LeVar for being a great chat guest. |
