Owls Slay Knights 70-56
12.13.00 | Women's Basketball
Hackensack, N.J. - The Temple women's basketball team improved its record to 5-1 with a 70-56 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on December 12.
Leading the way for Temple was junior forward Athena Christoforakis with 18 points, on 7-10 shooting and 10 rebounds. Fellow junior Lisa Jakubowicz (11 points, five rebounds) was the only other Temple player to reach double figures in the scoring column as the Owls established a fierce presence inside.
Temple was a bit undermanned against Fairleigh Dickinson as absent from the lineup were starting point guard Stacey Smalls (illness) and key reserve Christena Hamilton (injury). Still the Owls led by as many as 28 in the second half due mainly to their intense defensive pressure. The Knights shot 31.7 percent from the field for the game, committed 23 turnovers and were outrebounded 41-38. By comparison, Temple shot 45.8 percent as Fairleigh Dickinson proved to have no answers for Christoforakis and Jakubowicz inside.
Temple continues its road trip on Friday, December 22 at 10:00 p.m. facing the host team, New Mexico as part of the Lady Lobo Classic.
