Jakubowicz Uses 6-0 Run To Lead Temple Past UMass

Philadelphia - The Temple women's basketball team downed Massachusetts, 42-40, February 6 at The Apollo. It was the Owls' second win in a row and it ended a 14-game losing streak to the Minutewomen.
The Owls were led by sophomore Lisa Jakubowicz who posted a double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The Levittown, Pa. native was also a force in the paint blocking three shots. Jakubowicz was the Owls' go-to player down the stretch as she scored Temple's final five points of the contest.
The Owls used swarming defense to win the game. Temple's defense snatched 14 steals, blocked four shots, forced 22 UMass turnovers and held the Minutewomen to 25.5 percent shooting from the floor. Temple's defensive effort was led by sophomore Melissa Eagles. The 5-8 guard tied an Apollo record with a career-high six steals. Offensively, the Providence, R.I. native scored nine points and dished out four assists.
Freshman Regan Apo was Temple's spark off the bench scoring seven points.
Massachusetts was led by Amber Sneed and Nekole Smith who each scored nine points.
With the win, Temple improves to 7-14 overall and 2-8 in the Atlantic 10. The Owls will travel to St. Bonaventure on Feb. 9 to face the Bonnies.
