Philadelphia - Temple raised its Atlantic 10 Conference record to a perfect 3-0 with a victory over Dayton September 29, three games to one at McGonigle Hall. The game scores were 16-14, 15-11, 11-15 and 15-8 for the Owls who saw their overall record rise to 6-6 on the season. The Flyers fell to 8-5 overall, 2-3 in the Atlantic 10.
Leading the way for Temple once again was senior All-America candidate Alma Kovaci who notched another double-double with 34 kills and 20 digs. Kovaci now has 255 kills on the season and is currently Temple's second all-time leader in kills with 1,701. Sophomore setter Solana Lee passed out 55 assists in the match to lead the Owls in that category. Fellow sophomore Sara Stone recorded nine kills and 17 digs while freshman Yamit Haba added eight kills and 11 digs.
Dayton was led by Sierra Ashley with a double-double of her own (25 kills, 16 digs). Susan Westbrock added 22 kills while Megan Pease recorded 14 kills for the Flyers. Setter Carla Muntz posted 66 assists for the visitors as well.
The news wasn't all bright for Temple as Kovaci suffered an ankle injury in the contest. Her status is uncertain for the Owls' home match against Xavier tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
