PHILADELPHIA- Temple Owls women's volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith has announced the hiring of Tamika Brekke as the program's assistant coach.

Prior to joining Temple, Brekke spent two seasons on the coaching staff at University of Iowa, beginning in February 2024.

"We're excited to welcome Tamika to our staff. She comes to us from the University of Iowa and the Big Ten, where she has gained valuable experience both as an assistant coach and as a technical coordinator. That background brings immediate value to our program.

This is the right time for Tamika to step in and make an impact. As our conference continues to rise on the national stage, her experience at high-level programs will help us continue to elevate how we train and compete on a daily basis.

What really stands out about Tamika is her passion for coaching and the way she connects with student-athletes. She understands that success is built not only through preparation and execution, but also through trust and relationships. That combination will have a meaningful impact on our team and the overall experience of our athletes, "said Hampton-Keith.

Brekke served as both assistant coach and director of video analytics as a part of the Iowa City staff. She arrived in Iowa City after a successful stint at Kent State University, where she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2022 to 2024. In her first season, she helped guide the Golden Flashes to their best non-conference record (9–2) since 2008, while the team ranked 43rd nationally in digs per set (16.00).

Before Kent State, Brekke was a volunteer assistant at Kansas State University, helping lead the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016. A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Brekke began her collegiate playing career at North Carolina Central University in 2015 before transferring to University of North Dakota. There, she helped the Fighting Hawks win back-to-back Big Sky Tournament championships, earning automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

"Temple stood out to me because of its culture, its competitiveness, and the opportunity to develop student-athletes in a meaningful way. It felt like the right fit immediately.

Every day in the gym, I want our athletes to feel challenged, supported, and empowered. My goal is to bring energy, attention to detail, and a mindset that pushes them to compete at a high level while continuing to grow as individuals.

What excites me most about building here in Philadelphia is the opportunity to be part of something special in a city that is passionate about sports and pride. I'm looking forward to helping elevate the program and contributing to a culture that our players, alumni, and community can be proud of.

Thank you to Linda Hampton-Keith for giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to get started, "said Brekke.

Brekke holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a B.S. in Sociology from the University of North Dakota, where she was also a member of the volleyball team. She later earned a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western New Mexico University in 2021.
