Maryland Edges Owls in Temple Invitational Golf Tournament

Moosic, Pa. - First-round leader Maryland hung on for a one-stroke victory over the host Owls in the 14-team Temple Invitational Golf Tournament, which concluded October 6 at Glenmaura National Golf Club. Maryland, which started the day with a 10-stroke lead over Temple, finished with a two-round total of 589, besting the Owls' 590.

Temple junior Jon Rusk (Washington Crossing, Pa.) led wire-to-wire to capture the individual championship with a two-round three-under-par total of 139. For the tournament Rusk carded 30 pars and five birdies. He played the par threes even was one under for the par fours and two under for the par-fives holes. Thomas Blankvoort of George Washington was second with an even par total of 142, Andrew Svoboda of St. John's was third at 143, Michael Welch of Central Connecticut State was fourth at 144 and John Moheter of Maryland was fifth at 145.

St. John's captured third place in the team standings with a two-round total of 598, followed by Princeton (608) and George Washington (612) to round out the top five.
