SENIORS RAM FORDHAM FOR 2-1 WIN IN FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON
PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's soccer team (4-13-1, 3-8, A-10) defeated the Fordham University Rams 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, November 4, 2001 in the season finale for the Owls. After being honored at the beginning of the game for their contributions to the team over the past four years, seniors Justin Kain and Jeff Fisher each scored a goal to win the game for the Owls.
The Rams came out early in the game with an attempt to score when a shot went in the goal but was ruled offsides and therefore did not count. The Owls answered back with a goal by Justin Kain and an assist by John Burns at the 34 minute mark in the game. Just three minutes later, fellow senior Jeff Fisher scored Temple's second goal on a penalty kick. With just seven minutes left in the game, Fordham's Andrew Hurczyn scored to put Fordham on the board but Temple's defense was able to hold off the Rams to win the game.
Owls goalie Patrick Hannigan had nine saves in the game while Fordham's Nathaniel Freihaut had seven.
Today was the season finale for the Temple Owls men's soccer game. Overall, they were 4-13-1 and 3-8 in the Atlantic 10.
