OWLS WOMEN FLY PAST SLOVENIAN TEAM IN EXHIBITION

PHILADELPHIA -- Athena Christoforakis (23), Lisa Jakubowicz (22), and Natalia Issac (11) all scored in double figures as the Temple's women's basketball team defeated Illirija of Slovenia 88-67 in an exhibition game at McGonigle Hall Tuesday night. In the only tune-up before the regular season, the Owls raced out to a 12-3 lead and were in control throughout the contest. Temple held a 38-35 lead at intermission and really poured it on in the second half, leading by as many as 23 and shooting 53 percent from the floor.

Temple opens the regular season on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Evansville at McGonigle Hall in the preseason WNIT.

Senior guard Melissa Dunne and junior guard/forward Chrissy Cruz both had five assists to lead the team as the Owls did a good job distributing the ball. Cruz added nine points and seven rebounds in a solid all-around effort, as nearly every player wearing the Cherry and White scored. Temple also won the rebounding (40-31), steals (7-5), and assist-to-turnover (28/13 to 15/23) battles en route to the comfortable final margin.
