SETON HALL HANDS TEMPLE WOMEN SECOND STRAIGHT ROAD DEFEAT

12.29.01 | Women's Basketball

South Orange, N.J. -- It was a tale off two halves for the Temple women's basketball team (3-6, 0-0) as it lost its second consecutive road game to Seton Hall (7-4, 0-1) 58-44 on December 28. It was an ugly half, as in the first, especially if you like offense. The Owls shot just 28 percent from the field while the Pirates shot just 20 percent en route to a 17-15 halftime advantage. It was a disappointing half. In the second half, Temple shot better, just barely, hitting at a rate of nearly 36 percent while Seton Hall pounded the ball inside and shot 53 percent. The Pirates also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Owls 50-27. Those numbers added up to another double digit loss for Temple.

Senior guard Natalia Isaac led the Owls with 13 points and was the only Temple player to score in double figures. Fellow senior Lisa Jakubowicz and junior Stacey Smalls added seven points each. Athena Christoforakis, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, was limited to six points and a team-high tying four rebounds. Temple forced 24 Seton Hall turnovers but committed 18 of its own. The Owls also shot just 13 free throws while the Pirates shot 27.

Charlene Thomas led Seton Hall in scoring with a game-high 17 points on 8-13 shooting. Leslie Ardon (10 points) and Cecilia Lindqvist (10 points) were the other double-figure scorers for the Pirates. Ashley Bush led the home team in rebounding with a game-high 11 boards.

Temple closes out 2001 by hosting the Temple Holiday Classic. On December 30, the Owls face Maryland-Eastern Shore at 3:30 p.m. as part of a triple-header event that includes the men's game vs. Pennsylvania and Mississippi vs. Fairleigh Dickinson. On New Year's Eve the consolation game begins at 12:00 noon followed by the championship at 2:00 p.m.
