Owls Survive Collision with Rams
2.17.01 | Women's Basketball
Bronx, N.Y. - For the Temple women's basketball team (16-8, 9-4), it must have seemed like deja vu. The Owls were playing the Rams and the game was close throughout. However this time the Temple prevailed over the Fordham Rams (5-18, 2-10) 52-50 on February 16.
The Owls won the game despite being outrebounded (39-31) and squandering a second half lead that was as large as nine points. One key statistic was free throw shooting. Temple shot 62.5 percent from the charity stripe while Fordham shot just 36.4 percent from the line including an 0-4 stretch with the game literally on the line.
Senior guard Natalia Isaac led the Owls with 15 points and was the only Temple player to score in double figures. Junior forward Athena Christoforakis grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Maureen Garvey led Fordham in scoring with 18 points.
Temple only had one block in the game but it was huge. Junior center Lisa Jakubowicz blocked a shot as time expired to seal the victory.
The Owls next travel to St. Joseph's where they will face the Hawks in an Atlantic 10 rematch that happens to be the Big Five city series finale.
