Temple's Afia Brown Named Female Athlete Of The Meet At Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championship

KINGSTON, RI - Temple University senior Afia Brown (Yeadon, PA; Penn Wood
HS) was named Female Athlete of the Meet for her performance at the Atlantic
10 Conference Indoor Championships, conducted at the University of Rhode Island Feb. 16-18.
Brown won the 200 meters in 25.14, won the 400 meters in 58.14, placed
sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.39 and anchored the Owls' 4x400-meter relay
team to a first-place finish in 3:58.06. Behind Brown's performance, the
Temple women placed second only to the host Rams (160.37) in the team
competition with a meet total of 117.67 points.
Other notable performances for Coach George Phillips's Owl women included
Naomi Beverly (So., Marietta, GA/Marietta HS) with a first in the 55 meters
(7.16) and a second to Brown in the 200 meters (25.40); Edith Lewis (So.,
New Castle,DE/William Penn HS) with seconds in both the long jump (17-9.75)
and triple jump (37-4.50); and Ruby Amanze (Fr., Roslyn, PA/Abington HS) with
a second in the 500 meters (1:17.08).
The top performances for the Temple men included Robert Leite-Young (So.,
York, PA/Central York HS), who won the triple jump (45-07.25) and placed
third in the long jump (21-06.75), and Tracy Champion (So., Philadelphia/West
Catholic), who took second in the 55-meter hurdles (7.70).
