Outdoor Track Places Well At Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (April 9) - The Temple men's and women's outdoor track and

field teams competed this past weekend in the Terrapin Invitational at the

University of Maryland. The women had a strong outing finishing second

overall with 15 athletes placing in the top five in various events. The men

finished third with 14 athletes placing in the top five in their respective

competitions.

For the women, senior Afia Brown won the 100m dash with a time of 11.98.

Brown holds the top time in the Atlantic 10 Conference in this event.

Sophomore Naomi Beverly and freshman Jaweia Campbell also placed in the 100m

dash coming in fourth and fifth (12.45, 13.02). Brown and Beverly also

finished fourth and sixth overall in the 200m, (26.50, and 26.53). In the

1,500m run, freshman Nicky Porter placed fifth with a time of 5:03.34.

Freshman Jessica Jennings came in third in the 400m hurdles (1:08.37) and

Campbell placed third in the 100m hurdles (15.71).

The Owls had five athletes place in the 400m run with freshman Samantha Porter

finishing third (57.49), Kasha Craig coming in fourth (59.96), freshman

Chanelle Sirmons placing sixth (1:01.79), freshman Annsha Richards finishing

seventh (1:02.40) and sophomore Marirose Roach coming in tenth (1:04.20). In

the 800m run, freshmen Ruby Amanze and Nicky Porter finished second and fourth

(2:17.73, 2:23.17). Sophomore Edith Lewis placed third in the triple jump

(10.94m) and fifth in the long jump (4.87m). In the shot put, freshman

Rashida Stamps came in third overall with a throw of 11.60m. Temple's relay

teams had another strong outing placing first in the 4x400m (3:56.85) and

second in the 4x100m (46.74).

On the men's side, freshmen Jason Forbes and Craig Henry placed first and

second in the triple jump (13.67m, 12.96m). Forbes also finished fourth in

the long jump with a leap of 4.10m and sophomore Robert Leite-Young placed

fifth in the same event (6.05m). Sophomore William Springfield won the 100m

dash with a time of 11.37 and came in fifth overall in the 200m dash (23.61).

In the 400m run, junior Otis Hudson, Jr. came in third with a time of 51.22.

For the Owls, freshman Kevin Kelly won the pole vault with a height of 4.10m.

Sophomore Daniel Stevens placed second in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.75.

In the 110m hurdles, sophomore Tracey Champion finished fourth (15.64) and

freshman Bryant Adams came in third in the 400m hurdles. Senior Robert

Lythgoe finished second in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:56.52. The men's

relay team also had a solid outing, winning the 4x400 (3:24.27) and placing

third in the 4x100 (43.33).

Both the men's and women's teams will compete on April 13 at the Women Sea Ray

Relays and at the Villanova Invitational on April 14.
