Outdoor Track Finishes Strong at Towson Invitational

Towson, Md. (April 21) - The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed this past weekend in the Towson University Invitational. Both teams performed well having a total of 26 athletes place in the top five in various events.

Sophomore Robert Leite-Young led the way for the Owls winning both the long and triple jumps (43ft, 7.75in, 42ft, 9.25in). Freshmen Jason Forbes and Craig Henry also placed in these events. Forbes and Henry finished third and fourth in the long jump (19ft, 6in, 19ft, 5.5in) and second and third in the triple jump (42ft, 9.25in, 41ft, 1in). Sophomore Tracey Champion won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.82. Freshman Bryant Adams came in third in the 200m run (22.94).

The Owls had three athletes place in the 400m dash with Adams finishing second (49.89), Junior Otis Hudson coming in third (50.99) and freshman Jeffrey Hagues placing fifth (52.01). In the 800m run, sophomore Daniel Stevens placed second (1:54.99). Freshman pole-vaulter, Kevin Kelly placed third overall with a height of 13ft. The Owls placed second in the 4x400m relay (3:19.70) and came in third in the 4x100m relay (43.57).

For the women, sophomore Naomi Beverly won the 100m dash (12.10) and the 200m dash (24.79). Also in the 100m dash, sophomore Marirose Roach placed sixth and freshman Jaweia Campbell finished seventh (13.00). Three additional athletes placed third, sixth and seventh in the 200m: freshman Jessica Jennings (25.29), sophomore Edith Lewis (25.995) and freshman Samantha Porter (25.996). In the 100m hurdles, freshman Jaweia Campbell finished first with a time of 15.50. Freshman Rashida Stamps won the shot put with throw of 39ft, .25in).

Temple's relay teams continued to dominate by winning the 4x100m relay (47.23), 4x800m relay (9:33.13) and placing second in the 4x400m relay (4:02.21). Lewis also finished first in the triple jump (37ft, 2in) and second in the long jump (17ft, 9.50in). Senior Afia Brown won the 400m dash (56.60) with teammates Jennings and senior Kasha Benson Craig coming in fourth and fifth (58.18, 59.15). The Owls had three freshmen place in the 800m run including Ruby Amanze finishing first (2:15.63), Nicole Porter placing third (2:22.76) and Chanelle Sirmons coming in seventh (2:31.79). In the discus throw, sophomore Enewan Adjah came in fifth with a distance of 99ft, 1.75in).

The Owls will compete on April 26 - 28 in the Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania on Franklin Field.
