2000 Season Review in Brief

Under first-year head coach Dave MacWilliams, the Temple men's soccer team displayed steady improvement over the 2000 season ... After opening with a 3-2 overtime win at home over Drexel, the Owls dropped 11 straight, including the first six matches in Atlantic 10 Conference play ... Among those 11 losses were four one-goal decisions in overtime: vs. Philadelphia University (1-0, Sept. 9); vs. Rhode Island (1-0, Oct. 6); vs. U-Mass (1-0, Oct. 8); and at Dayton (3-2, Oct. 15) ... Rhode Island eventually won the conference championship; U-Mass and Dayton both qualified for the four-team A-10 Tournament ... The Owls rallied to win their final four games of the season, defeating La Salle (3-0, Oct. 20), Fordham (2-0, Oct. 22), Duquesne (2-1 OT, Oct. 27) and St. Bonaventure (3-2, Oct. 29) ... For the season , the Owls struggled offensively, scoring a total of just 19 goals, while allowing 35 ... Freshman Cornelius Murphy ranked sixth in the conference in goalkeeping with a 2.01 goals-against average ... Murphy was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week as well as Player of the Week in the Philadelphia Soccer Seven for the week ending Oct. 22 ... Junior midfielder Angelo DiCarlo earned the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 29.
